March: 5-week beginners course, Juice Studios, Hull
During March I’ll be running a 5-week course at Juice Studios on Humber Street in Hull. For two hours every Monday evening we’ll cover the basic stitches, equipment and techniques and you’ll be able to combine stitches into a small project such as a bookmark, bracelet, corsage or motif. I’ll be able to give individual support to suit your pace and interests. All equipment will be provided and I can arrange for you to borrow it between sessions if you want to continue at home, but if you have your own equipment, feel free to bring it along.

Full-day Beginner’s Lacemaking workshop, Saturday 25th April 10:15am – 3:45pm, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull
Lacemaking Workshop with Catherine Lillie – Hull Museums and Galleries

I’ll start the workshop with a brief history of lace and lacemaking before you get started with the basic bobbin lace stitches, which you will then use to create either a flower brooch / corsage or bookmark using recycled and repurposed threads. Examples of lace from the Ferens collection will also be available to view which is really exciting as son of these items are not on permanent display.
Introduction to Bobbin Lacemaking Workshop, Saturday 13th June, Bronte Parsonage, Howarth
Introduction to Bobbin Lacemaking Workshop | The Brontë Parsonage Museum
This interactive workshop will introduce you to the basic techniques and equipment of bobbin lacemaking. You will start by learning how to wind bobbins, and then you’ll practice the basic stitches (whole stitch and half stitch) and combine them for different effects. You’ll have individual support and be able to take home your creation at the end.

For both the workshops and the short course, no experience is needed; just a love of making, textiles, or a desire to keep this endangered heritage craft alive. You will:
• receive step-by-step guidance to learn the basic bobbin lace stitches and techniques at your own pace
• receive a pattern template and access to resources to support you beyond the workshop
• meet other crafters in an inclusive, friendly and welcoming space. Come on your own or bring a friend!
• have time away to learn, relax and be mindfully absorbed in a creative activity
• be able to take away your work and some resources to take your lacemaking further.
I hope you’ll be able to join me!
