#40lacestitches

The last in the series of 40 videos of lace stitches and techniques went live a couple of weeks ago. I’m not going to lie, this project took up more time than I thought it would (and issues with Buffer not consistently talking to Instagram nearly broke me at times!) but as a legacy project for the 40th anniversary of Wolds Lacemakers, I feel it has been a success.

Across Instagram, You Tube and Facebook the videos have been viewed thousands of times and there has been  some lovely feedback from lacemakers locally and across the globe.

One of the beginners at my recent workshop said it’s enabled them to keep going, which is just what I wanted. I’ve also used the videos myself a few times to remind me of what to do!

I’d really love it if other people took up the baton of the video stitch bank idea. We restricted ourselves to 40 videos as it fitted with our anniversary, but imagine if there was a video stitch bank for Honiton fillings, or needlelace, or any of the myriad other regional laces across the world. No text or language needed- just being able to watch someone’s hands slowly working the stitch, and being able to access it whenever you needed it…
