Rainbow Milanese mini bunting

My lovely friend Kerry – talented designer and artist and all-round beautiful soul – recently opened her own art studio in Beverley (Check out her Instagram- Creative Joy: https://www.instagram.com/creativejoyuk?igsh=d3d1NW9paHppYmdl).

When she invited me to visit her studio I knew I wanted to make something for her.

Kerry’s designs are bold and vibrant which are not necessarily words associated with traditional lace, so I wanted to make sure that what I made complemented her aesthetic. I decided on some mini rainbow bunting using a pattern designed by Claire Bonito https://www.roseground.com/product/bunting-a-milanese-design which I’ve made before, here:

This time, I opted for the straight bunting rather than the curved. I had lots of fils a dentelles threads in various colours from previous projects, and I used a variegated blue for the Tenstick, in the hope it would look like a blue sky with white clouds. Each pennant uses barely any thread so it’s a great project to use up any bits of threads you have.

One thing to remember with this, or indeed any lace project, is that you’re working on the reverse, so if you want your finished rainbow to be red on the left going to violet on the right, you need to work it the other way round

Claire has an excellent You Tube tutorial to support you in making the bunting: https://youtu.be/za2Mg_6smgU?si=gcLKVUuMbVDHReZB

I’ve made some of her other Milanese patterns (and have some others that I’ve not yet made!) and highly recommend them.

Kerry was delighted with her finished bunting

And isn’t her studio gorgeous?!
