So in the past fortnight, I’ve been spoilt with the number and range of fabric shops I’ve visited. From standing open-mouthed at the gorgeousness (and prices) at Liberty’s, to finding just what I needed at Fent’s in Skipton, to being a bit overwhelmed by the range in the Abakahn’s sale.

Liberty’s first- I didn’t actually buy anything but it was just wonderful to see all the beautiful fabrics displayed and it was so peaceful in there after the mayhem of the London tourists on Oxford Street. I spent some time stroking the lawn fabrics and then debating whether to buy a metre remnant, but none of them particularly ‘spoke’ to me, so I ended up slinking away empty handed

A couple of days later I was back on Yorkshire ground and my first visit to Fent’s which was just fab and I managed to get nearly everything I went for- two different lining fabrics, some 1 metre lengths of lawn (quite reasonable at £8 each), some seersucker to make two summer dresses for my girls and a (very early) Christmas present for my sister. The choice and range of fabrics- from dressmaking, to curtains, blinds, soft furnishings and crafts- was fantastic.

Finally good old Abakahn’s, which luckily for me (although perhaps not my bank balance) is near enough my office to be able to pay a visit on a lunchtime. It is cheap enough at the best of times, with its per weight baskets (last time I went, without the sale on, I got 4 metres of fabric for £3!), however even better in the sale, with 15% off everything. I picked up this little pile for £18!

So although right now it feels like I’ve bought a lot, I’ve not actually spent too much, and I now have all I need* to get on with the projects on my ‘To Make’ list. It’s just a pile of fabric now, but I can already see those garments hanging in my wardrobe.

*All I need, that is, except time…
